TRATAKA


 Trataka is a sadhna of the practice of meditation (dhyan) in which a person concentrates at any thing or gazes any thing by concentrating the mind and it is called trataka. It has been considered a part of Hathyoga.Introduction-

      Trataka is a sadhna of the practice of meditation (dhyan) in which a person concentrates at any thing or gazes any thing by concentrating the mind and it is called trataka. It has been considered a part of Hathyoga. Its practice increases the concentration power of a person and hypnotism power is awakened. This activity is done by many techniques by sitting in the positions of padma asana, sidhda asana or vajra asana. It has been described about trataka in yoga shastra that concentrate on any micro thing without winking eyelids until the water comes from the eyes and close the eyes as the water comes from the eyes. It is called trataka.

Technique of this activity-

           This activity is done by many techniques. The practice of this activity should be done in a closed room. For this activity, sit in padma asana or vajra asana and make a round shape on a white paper equal to a coin one rupee and keep this paper 4.5 hands away from your self. The mark should be either in black or green color. Or burn any lamp or candle in the room and put it equal of your eyes’ height. Use pure ghee for lamp.

        Now, spread a mat or bed sheet on the floor and sit upon it in padma asana. Keep your mind stable and concentrate on the mark, which is present on the paper by keeping the body stable or concentrate on the flame of candle or lamp. In this activity, eyelids should not be winked until the water starts to come out from the eyes but close eyes before blowing the water from the eyes. Thereafter, rub both the palms together and touch to the eyelids lightly and gently. Thus, after doing this activity for 15 minutes, you will look rays in many points around the flame (light).

        But, keep on concentrating your eyesight on the flame of the lamp or candle in the beginning. All the light will disappear by trying to look side by light in place of looking candle flame. After becoming stable for a little time, you will look light like before after looking the light. This activity happens when only light is seen in that direction in which the eyesight is concentrated. In it, when a person stables the complete light in the middle of the soul, it is considered complete. 

Precaution-

        Do the practice of this activity in the midnight or at Brahammuhurat. This activity should be done until the person feels inflammation in the eyes. It should be done for 1-2 times in the beginning. Don’t use kerosene oil lamp and bulb for this activity.

Special note-

        The person gets help in the awakening of kundilini power by shtakaram of hathyoga. Do this activity at a calm place and make the mind stable. It also can be done at any other thing instead of lamp flame as- you can concentrate at any flower by sitting in any garden according to your desire. After getting success in it, you can concentrate at the moon in moonlit night.

Benefits-

        Shambhavi mudra is made sidha by tratak. Eye problems disappear by the practice of this activity and eyesight becomes powerful. The person gets so much strength by the practice of this activity that he can see stars even in day. He gets benefits in dharana and the mind remains sable by it. Will power is increased and vitality air remains stable by it. After getting success in it, if the person looks in the eyes of second person by increasing his will power, the second person is hypnotized and he does what the hypnotist says to him to do.
