Sodium helps in maintaining the balance of internal and external water of body cells. Due to deficiency of it, muscles cramps, adema can occur, but its excessiveness can generate harmful results like- high blood pressure, kidneys diseases, liver disease and contraction related heart diseases. Sodium comes out through urine especially with sweat in the form of sodium chloride. Sometimes, biological sodium presents in diets is not enough for fulfilling of requirement. Therefore, sodium chloride or eating salt hat to added in foods.
Its main sources are processed diet, meat and common salt. Deficiency of sodium is not dangerous.
