SARVANGA ASAN


Introduction:

        This asana affects to the whole body. Servanga asana means that all the diseases of the body disappear and the body feels the sensation of pleasure like heaven. The practice of this asana massages the nervous system. Sarvanga asana comes after Shirsha Asana in all the asanas. The benefits of Shirsha Asana and sarvanga asana are same. This asana awakens Kundilini power. It alleviates the poison in the body and develops the vital power.

 The practice of this asana should be done on a neat, clean and airy environment. Spread mat or bed sheet on the floor and lie down on the back for the practice of this asana.Technique:

        The practice of this asana should be done on a neat, clean and airy environment. Spread mat or bed sheet on the floor and lie down on the back for the practice of this asana. Now keep the whole body straight and stretch by joining both the legs. Take breath and raise your legs upward slowly. Legs should be kept straight in this position. First, raise your legs then your waist and in the last upper part of the chest up. After that, bend your both the hands from the elbows and hold the waist by keeping hands on the waist. Total weight of the whole body should be kept on the shoulders in this position of asana.  Keep the portion from shoulder to elbow on the floor in this position and touch chin to the chest. Now stretch legs and pull upward. After that, stay in this position for 30 seconds while making the body stable and the breathing activity (inhaling or exhaling) should be kept normal. Asana period can be increased slowly till 3 minutes. After that, loose the body and bend your knees and then return in normal position slowly by the support of the palms. Take rest for 10 seconds after the practice and repeat it again. Thus, repeat it 3 times.

If someone feels difficulty in the practice of complete Sarvanga Asana, he should do the practice of Ardhda Sarvanga Asana.

Method:

        First, spread a mat or bed sheet on the floor and lie down on the back (on the mat) for the practice of this asana. Now join both your legs and keep straight and stretched. Now raise your legs up slowly while exhaling and bend your knees and keep the thighs and calves downward. Now raise your waist, back and chest upward and keep the weight of whole body on the shoulders. Give support to the whole body by the hands and put the palms on the waist and elbows should remain in the contact of floor. Stay in this position for 30 seconds and keep the breathing activity normal. Thereafter, return in normal position with the support of the hands slowly. This activity should be done 4-5 times.

This position should not be done more than 5 minutes. Repeat this activity again after taking rest for some time in position of Shava asana. This asana can be done 3 times but it can be done only one time in a day tooSpecial note:

Some people do the practice of other asanas after coming in the position of this asana as – they extend both the legs upward in this position and do the practice of this asana or they do the practice of Saravanga Asana by extending both the legs forward and backward. The asana is also done by bending the body right and left side. It is also done in the position of crossed legs. In the position of Sarvanga Asana, a person has to stay in the practice of cycling and hands are kept without any support. 

Precaution:

        Persons below than fourteen years should not do the practice of this asana. A person should not stay in this position more than 5 minutes.

Benefits:

        The practice of this asana makes the body flexible, energetic, active and strong. It ends all types of tension and fatigue. The practice of this asana originates a type of juice in the body which stops to the growing age and keeps a person far from senility. Indigestion, headache, eyes pain and forehead pain are cured by the practice of this asana. It is helpful in increasing the appetite. Skin diseases do not occur by this asana because this asana helps in the treatment of all types of blood disorders. All disorders of the liver, chronic constipation, scrofula (throat diseases), testicles enlargement, asthma, elephantiasis and cough are cured by this asana. It makes the digestive system strong and makes the heart pulsation normal. The practice of this asana is done by reversing the body and the blood flows in opposite direction so it gives nutritive to the internal cells, fibers and other limbs. This asana makes the lungs active and provides relief in alopecia and it prevents white hair. It produces strength and memory power in the body and. Hernia, stomach diseases and impotency are cured by this asana. It helps in making sexual power active and cures hoarseness. It makes active to the spinal cord and nervous system. This asana makes the spinal cord flexible and fits the blood circulation. A type of juice originates in the body which alleviates the poison. A person becomes the victim of epilepsy fits because of the lack of this juice in the body. This asana makes the face shiny, attractive and beautiful. The practice of this asana removes looseness of the body skin and face wrinkle. It purifies the body and reduces body fat and cures obesity (fatness). It checks acnes, pimples and spots of the face and saves the sperm count. Sarvanga Asana is horizontal, which is helpful in the awaking of Kundilini Power. This asana cures wounds and increases vitality power. This asana is very useful in making the thyroid gland active and healthy. This gland is present in lower portion of the neck and is situated in the length of fifth, sixth and seventh vertebrae. Nerves which go upwardly from the aorta provide blood to them. Therefore, there is a need of nutritive elements to the nerves all the time. The valve which is present in all the place of the veins and stops the flow of blood downwards gets relief in Sarvanga Asana position by which it helps in increasing working capacity and ends fatigue of the hands and feet and increases freshness and energy in the body. This asana is helpful in the treatment of the eyes and head. It is very useful asana for the persons who do mental works. This asana increases the activeness of Hormonal power by which vital and physical power of a person becomes strong. It develops undeveloped testicles properly. It also affects the ovum glands of the women like men because of which obesity and sterility are cured.

        The practice of this asana develops reproductive organs and bones. Dysmenorrhoea, retention of menses, spermtorrhoea, sterility, anemia and disorders of the reproductive organs are cured by the practice of this asana. This asana is useful in the treatment of uterus disorders.

Meditation:

        A person should concentrate on the on the Kundilini during the practice of this asana. He should try to meditate in the practice of supplying energy into the brain by gathering from the lower portion of the spinal cord.
