Prostate gland

Prostate gland is situated before the rectum and under the urinary bladder and surrounds all around the first portion of urethra. It is round and hard gland in the shape of wall nut which is covered by the fibrous tissues and strong and thin capsule of smooth muscle. Prostate is made of below mentioned three kinds of glands from inside which supply their secretions into the prostatic portion by passing through the different ducts.

  • Mucosal glands which are present inwards secrete mucus. Sometimes, these small glands get enlarged and inflamed in old men and old men feel difficulty in urination because of the contracting the urethra.
  • Submucosal glands secrete no kind of mucus.

Main viz external prostatic glands- these secrete thin, smooth, acidic fluid in which water, acid phosphatege, cholesterol, minerals and phospholipids are present.  The prostatic secretion reaches into the urethra through the several minute holes because of contracting smooth muscles of prostate. This secretion helps in sustaining the movement of sperms and helps in neutralizing the acidity of women vagina.
