Prickly pear is pungent in taste, stimulating, hot in nature and purgative. It is useful for the treatment of vatta disorder, breathing problems, flatulence, wound, swelling, piles and blood disorders and brings phlegm out too.
Juice of prickly pear fruit generates phlegm and ends inflammation. It also causes giddiness, senselessness, dropsy, ulcer-pimples, stomachache, gonorrhoea and bile disorder. Taking juice of prickly pear makes urine red.
Toast buds or half ripe fruit or raw fruit of prickly pear and put off peel of it. Crush this fruit and squeeze it thereafter mix sugar or sugar candy in it. Giving this preparation to the patient is useful to end breathing problems and cough. This medicine is also useful to cure whooping cough of children.
