The plants of Indian hemp are found all over India. Its plant grows itself. Its plants are found widely in Utter Pradesh, West Bengal and Bihar (Indian states). Indian hemp (bhang) is prepared from the dry leaves of its male plant while intoxicated drug (gaanja) is prepared from dry resinous stamen of its female plant’s flowers. The substance like resin, which is found on the leaves and branches of Indian hemp plant is called “Intoxicated drug (charas)”.

Outer structure: The leaves and bushes of Indian hemp have bad smell. The plants of Indian hemp are 3-8 feet long. Its leaves are situated in a line or serial. Upper leaves of Indian hemp plant are divided into 1-3 portions and lower leaves are divided into 3-8 portions. The stalks of its lower leaves are long.

Colour: Indian hemp is green.

Taste: It is pungent and vapid.

Structure: Indian hemp is a plant. Its flowers blossom in bunches. Its leaves are long and turreted like the neem but smaller than neem. Its every branch has 3 to 7 leaves. There are two kinds of Indian hemp- first is male and second is female. The leaves of male kind plant are called “Indian hemp”. Gaanja is prepared from the plant of female kind. Indian hemp is grown at Rajshahi district in West Bengal. The plants of its both kinds cannot grow together on a place because if both are grown together then fibrous (jata) can entangle. If any male kind plant grows in the fields of Gaanja, it is uprooted soon. The Indian hemp, which is grown in Munger, Punjab and Rampur, is considered the best. The plant of Indian hemp is not higher than 180 centimeters. In India, the users of Indian hemp accept that it is a part of religion. Their view is that- only Indian hemp is sentimental and quite holy in world. That is why GOD LORD SHIVA (Shankar) swallowed Indian hemp. They favor that there is an existence of GOD in Indian hemp.

Nature: The leaves of Indian hemp are hot and dry.

Precaution: Taking over quantity of Indian hemp causes intoxication and the user becomes the victim of weakness. It makes characterless and viewless to a person. So it should not be used for sexual excitement and intoxication.

Removing side-effects: The bad effects of Indian hemp are removed by vomiting and eating sour products. The use of orange, pomegranate’s juice, milk, ghee, guava and guava’s leaves removes the side-effects of Indian hemp and Gaanja.

Dosage: It should be taken in 1 to 6 grams quantity.

Quality:

Indian hemp is bitter, light, pungent and hot. It is expectorant and increases bile. Taking Indian hemp causes affection and intoxication. It creates unconsciousness and increases digestion power. Indian hemp makes the voice clear and cures leprosy. It enhances brain power, sperm count, and digestion power and body strength. It has such elements that remain a person far from old age and its use increases appetite. It stops the motions. Taking Indian hemp causes excessive sleepiness and enhances sexual power. It also eliminates vatta and kapha.

Gaanja: Gaanja is peptic and increases thirst. It enhances the strength of the body and sexual desire. Gaanja causes excessive sleepiness and stimulates the mind. Taking its over quantity destroys embryo. It is intoxicated and cures the disease named paralysis.

Useful in different diseases:

1. Earache:

  • Pouring 8-10 drops juice of Indian hemp into the ear kills its worms and the patient gets relief in earache.
  • Boil ground Indian hemp in sweet oil (sesame oil) properly and filter it. Pouring this oil into the ear provides relief in all types of earache.
  • Immerse a cotton piece in the juice of Indian hemp’s leaves. Affixing this cotton wad into the ears gets rid of earache.

2. Insomnia: Taking over quantity of Indian hemp brings sound sleep. When a person remains unable to take sound sleep after the use of opium, in this condition the use of Indian hemp brings good sleep. A person does not become the victim of constipation and forehead ache.

3. Forehead ache:

  • Grind the leaves of Indian hemp plant and smell. A person gets rid of forehead pain by applying.
  • Heat the juice of Indian hemp’s leaves. Pouring   its 2-3 drops in the ear gets rid of forehead ache in winter and summer season.

4. Hysteria: The use of 250 milligrams Indian hemp with asafetida to the hysteria-affected woman is very beneficial. The victim gets good relief.

5. Germs of the head: Apply the juice of Indian hemp’s leaves on the forehead kills the germs of head and ends the dandruff.

6. Cough:

  • Take 65 milligrams Gaanja for getting relief in asthma and cough.
  • Make fine powder by grinding 4 grams Indian hemp, 8 grams long pepper, 12 grams peel of myrolelans, 16 grams peel of beleric myrobalan, 20 grams malabar nut tree and 24 grams truck turban moon together. After that, make a decoction by boiling 100 grams bark of acacia Arabica tree and mix above powder in this decoction. When it cools then make tablets equal to gram of this mixture. Taking two tablets with warm water twice a day is very useful in cough.

7. Asthma:

  • Taking 125 milligrams toasted Indian hemp with black pepper and sugar-candy each two grams provides relief in the disease named asthma.
  • Take the smoke of Indian hemp to get provides relief in asthma.
  • Fry about 120 milligrams Indian hemp with ghee. Make powder by grinding Indian hemp, black pepper and sugar-candy together. Take this powder for getting relief in asthma and tetanus.

8. Sprue:

  • Make powder by grinding 100 grams Indian hemp, 200 grams dry ginger and 400 grams cumin seeds together and store it after filtering. Make 80 small packets of this powder. Mix 1-2 spoons curd in one packet’s powder and lick it before half an hour of having meals. This process should be done twice a day for 40 days regularly. Its use is beneficial in chronic sprue.
  • Toast 2 grams washed Indian hemp and lick it mixing with 3 grams honey. It is a good medicine for the treatment of sprue and diarrhoea.

9. Stomachache: Mix equal quantity of Indian hemp and chilly powder together. Taking half spoon of this powder with jiggery (gur) provides relief in stomachache.

10. Bascillary dysentery:

  • Take a pinch of 125 milligrams powder of Indian hemp mixing with 4-6 drops juice of aniseed twice a day. Its use is an efficacious medicine for the treatment of bascillary dysentery.
  • Wash toasted Indian hemp and grind into fine powder. Lick 125 milligrams this powder mixing with honey twice a day. Its use is very good remedy for the treatment of diarrhoea and basciallary dysentery.
  • Take 50 milligrams powder of poppy seeds with 100 milligrams powder of Indian hemp twice a day. Its use provides relief.
  • Take the flowers and dry soft branches of Indian hemp mixing with sugar and black pepper. A patient of Bascillary dysentery gets rid of this disease by its use.

11. Testicles swelling:  

  • Soak Indian hemp in the water for some time. Wash testicles with this water and tie its foam on the testicles. Thus, a patient of this disease gets good relief.
  • Make a packet by taking wet leaves of Indian hemp plant and tie it on the testicles. Boil dry Indian hemp in water and foment testicles with this water. This formula reduces testicles’ swelling.

12. Strangury: Grind Indian hemp and cucumber (khira) or seeds of cucumber (kakdi) with water. Drink this preparation like syrup to get relief in this disease. Its use cures strangury.

13. Dysmenorrhoea: The woman should take any purgative thing or medicine before the starting of menstrual excretion to clean the stomach. Thereafter, take Gaanja thrice a day. Its use reduces the pain and makes the menstrual excretion normal.

14. Piles: Make a packet by taking 10 grams green or dry Indian hemp with 30 grams linseed. Tie this packet on the warts of piles gets rid of this disease and its pain as well as itching.

15. Penis: Grind Gaanja with castor oil and apply it on the penis. This application increases sexual power and ends the curvature of the penis.

16. Cholera: Boil 250 milligrams Gaanja or Indian hemp, small cardamom, black peppers and camphor properly. Take this preparation with cold water at the regular interval of one or half an hour in the initial stage of cholera. Its use cures this disease named cholera.

17. Arthritis: Rub oil of Indian hemp’s seeds on affected parts. Its use cures the disease arthritis.

18. Malaria: Mix 1-gram powder of pure Indian hemp and 2 grams jiggery (gur) together. Make four tablets of the above mixture. Taking 1-2 tablets after every 2 hours abates the fever caused by cold. Alternatively, taking one tablet of 1 gram of pure Indian hemp before an hour of fever reduces the velocity of fever.

19. Wound: Applying Indian hemp leaves’ powder on the wounds and injury-affected area provides relief soon.

20. Pain caused by injury: Grind a complete plant of Indian hemp and apply it on new wounds. Its use heals them up. Its paste is very useful to reduce the ache caused by injury.

21. Thickening of the semen: Indian hemp is very useful for enhancing sexual power. It reduces sperm and generates intoxication. If the patient is the victim of piles, take its smoke to get quick relief.

22. Prolapsus ani: Applying juice of Indian hemp’s leaves on the affected part cures prolapsus ani.

23. Ears worms: Pouring juice of Indian hemp in the ears kills earworms.

24. Loose motions: Fry 3 grams Indian hemp with 2 grams pure ghee. Taking this preparation mixing with honey before dinner stops loose motions.

25. Piles: Grind the leaves of Indian hemp plant and make piece of this paste. Put this piece on the anus and tie a cloth (langot). Its use cures piles.

26. Headache: Take about 240 milligrams Indian hemp to get relief in headache caused by phlegm.

27. Sleepiness: Taking about 25 grams ground Indian hemp with water or milk twice a day reduces excessive sleepiness and reduces headache.

28. Insomnia: Rub the oil of Indian hemp on the soles to cure the disease insomnia.

29. Vagina contraction:

  • Make a packet by taking Indian hemp and keep it in the vagina for 3 to 4 hours. It makes the vagina tight. The vagina of a woman, delivered many times, becomes like a virgin viz unmarried and untouched girl.
  • Make the powder by grinding the best quality of Indian hemp and sieve it. Put this powder in a cloth to make a packet. Keeping this packet in the vagina makes vagina tight like before.
